So What are the Benefits of Massage Anyways?
Massage can have many benefits depending on the technique used and the skill, training, and awareness of the therapist. All massage techniques share a few simple, and yet extensive, benefits.
All massage, even deep tissue techniques, have the effect of reducing stress. This can be a combination of the expression of self-worth by investing the time and money to receive (or give in the case of the therapist) a massage, the unique personal connection developed with massage, the hour to 90-minutes in a room with gentler lighting and some quiet time, and the calm gentle techniques applied by the therapist with the increase of blood flow and reduction in pain. Either way, the detrimental effects of stress are reduced with massage. The reduced stress improves healing rate, digestion, sleep patterns, blood pressure, and mental clarity.
Other specific techniques have other benefits. The physical benefits most commonly reported by clients include reduced pain, increased range of motion, faster healing rate, and better performance in athletic activities without new injuries. Other clients have reported reduced lymphedema in their legs, which has been documented by their physicians.
Clients have reported other benefits as well. Many have reported sensations of flying, seeing colors, and general euphoria. Others have reported greater motivation, reduced or eliminated desire for drugs and alcohol, greater levels of mental clarity and emotional stability through difficult and stressful times, and weight loss.
Jason's life changed dramatically as a result of learning bodywork, first Reiki and basic Polarity between 1997 and 1999, and later massage since 2004. Many of the changes that were made along the way were made easier and less stressful with regular meditation and monthly Reiki/Polarity sessions.
